Mizzou’s Molecular Imaging and Theranostics Center (MITC) is a university-wide resource for developing radiopharmaceutical-based diagnostic imaging and therapeutic agents. MITC brings comprehensive radiochemistry laboratories, PET/SPECT/CT and MRI imaging, animal imaging and therapy capabilities, and direct access to MURR radioisotopes into one coordinated research environment. This combination gives investigators access to the expertise, facilities and technologies needed to strengthen research from early discovery through translational application.

Supporting investigators

MITC supports investigators at the University of Missouri and across the University of Missouri System, especially those incorporating state-of-the-art in vivo imaging into their research. The center supports a broad scope of imaging and theranostic research, with an emphasis on pre-clinical studies that help evaluate new agents, refine targeting strategies and advance promising discoveries toward future clinical use. Its ability to support rodent, companion-animal, large-animal and human-focused research creates a rare continuum for veterinary and human translational discovery.

Research partnerships 

MITC is also a proud partner of the Dalton Cardiovascular Research Center, the College of Veterinary Medicine, the MU Research Reactor and NextGen Precision Health. Partnerships with these and other facilities allow MITC to conduct integrated research that benefits investigators, advances scientific discovery, and saves and improves lives in Missouri and beyond. Together with multidisciplinary faculty expertise across radiochemistry, molecular imaging, veterinary medicine, medicine and translational science, these partnerships position MITC to move promising ideas across the full path from laboratory development to potential clinical impact.
